A carpet is a textile covering on the floor. It is important for people to know how to distinguish a carpet from the term “rug” which is more general. Nowadays, the carpet market has grown huge. There are 12 different carpet types to choose from. Each of them has something to offer you for your home sweet home. These types of carpet include the following:
The first carpet type is the “woven” carpet. The production of this carpet is done on a loom. It is closely similar to a woven cloth that is being cut pile. The main material used to manufacture this type of carpet is yarn. Yarn is available in a wide variety of beautiful colors. With the use of this weaving material, the loom can produce a variety of carpet with very intricate designs. In general, woven carpets have the highest quality among other types that are available on the market.
The second type of carpet is the “tufted” one. The production of this carpet is made with the use of a tufting machine. Yarn is also the material used: single colored or non- colored one. For tufted carpets using non- colored yarn, it is printed or dyed with a design as another process. Carpets of this type can be either loop pile, cut pile or a combination of the two. The third type is the “needlefelt” carpet. The production of these carpets is a little bit more technologically advanced than other types. Individual fibers’ electrostatic attraction produces the carpets. The durability is guaranteed extremely high. Needlefelt carpets are usually used in hotels or other establishments where a lot of traffic is always experienced.
The fourth one in our list of carpet types is the “flatweave” carpet of which the production is done through weft threads and interlocking warp. Oriental flatwoven carpets have various types including tapestry weaves, soumark and plain weave. It is a very popular type of carpet in Japan and the orient. The fifth type to consider is called the “hooked rug” which is a handmade one done by pulling cloth strips like cotton or wool through a super sturdy fabric’s meshes. It is a simple rug construction which is now considered as a handicraft. The sixth type of carpet is “knotted pile”. In this carpet, there is an alternation between weft threads (structural) and a supplementary weft.
Why not consider buying our seventh type called “cut and loop files”? The combination of cut and looped fibers makes this carpet which comes in various surface textures. You can only be assured of medium durability for this carpet. It is available on the market in a wide selection of colors. Dirt and footprints can be hidden with the use of this carpet through its different layers making it applicable for informal or formal areas. Let us know about the eighth carpet type in the list: “Saxony”. This carpet consists of cut piles that are tightly twisted and straightly heat set. To produce a Saxony carpet, in a yarn, two or more fibers are twisted together. It features a soft texture ideal both for formal and informal areas. With the use of a vacuum cleaner, the dirt and footprints stained on this carpet can be easily removed.
“Textured Saxony” carpet is our ninth type. It is the most saleable carpet in the market which is perfect for informal areas due to its very soft texture. Since it has a multi- colored look, dirt and footprints can be made unnoticeable in a way. At the tenth place is the “plush/velvet” carpet which is made by twisting velvet and plush together. Its soft texture and elegant look make this carpet perfect for formal areas. The eleventh type of carpet to consider is called “frieze”. It consists of cut piles highly twisted together suitable for areas that have high traffic. Last but not the least type of carpet is ‘level loop pile” carpet produced through weaving of even yarn loops. It is said to be durable, luxurious- looking and track- resistant.
Before purchasing a carpet, it is important for you to know what type is suitable for the area you plan to cover with it. You can choose from the carpet types we have mentioned above. Things you should consider include the design, price, surface structure, material and durability of the carpet.
